About Me

Hi there, I'm Vrushank! Born in India in 1998, I moved to the Sunshine State with my family when I was six years old. As a kid, I was always very curious, and usually had my nose in a book or documentary checked out from the wonderful PBG library. I eventually attended the University of Florida in 2016, where I majored in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Computer Science.

During my freshman year at UF, I had the incredible opportunity to be a founding member of Solar Gators, a student-led solar car design team. Taking on leadership roles in this team taught me the value of perseverance and the importance of sticking with things through resolution, no matter how bottomless the pit of problems might be. This experience very much shaped me as an engineer and as a person.

I also interned twice at Tesla during my time at UF, eventually joining the Battery Design team full-time as a Mechanical Design Engineer. Working at Tesla showed me the complexities of engineering reliable, scalable systems for millions of units, a significant step up from the single-unit projects I worked on in solar car.

In August 2022, inspired by my long-standing interest with Deep Learning (which started with the OpenAI Dota 2 bot in 2018), I began dedicating my early mornings and weekends to learning more about the field. I found myself very captivated by the potential this technology showed, and made the decision to leave Tesla in the summer of 2023 to work on contract as a Software Engineer at an AI start-up in San Francisco, focusing on LLM datasets.

I left in December 2023 to pursue self-directed machine learning studies, with a particular focus in robotics. I feel incredibly fortunate to be living in this era of human history, and strongly believe that general-purpose robotics will usher in an age of abundance that we can't begin to imagine. Improvements in the means of production, from early farm plows to extreme ultraviolet lithography, have been responsible for deeply meaningful improvements in people's quality of life. General-purpose robotics will be the pinnacle of this technological evolution, and I plan on dedicating my career to advancing this field.

That's my journey so far, and I'm excited to see where it takes me next. Thank you for taking the time to get to know about me!
